The Art of Power: From Genghis Khan to the Age of Democracy - a lecture in aid of SWV

22 January 2026

Join us for a very special evening including an insightful lecture, drinks and canapes at the Turf Club, London.

How has power been projected, legitimised, and remembered across history? In this richly illustrated and highly engaging lecture, Nick Ross—Director of Art History Abroad—takes us on a sweeping journey from the raw authority of Genghis Khan, through the storytelling of the Bayeux Tapestry, Renaissance genius, the rise of diplomacy, and the splendour of early modern courts, to the visual language of power we still recognise today.

Renowned for his infectious enthusiasm and exceptional gift for making art history vivid and accessible, Nick brings together politics, culture, and human ambition in a talk that promises to be as  thought-provoking as it is entertaining. An evening to be inspired, surprised, and enlightened.
