Supporter Spotlight - Big Yellow Foundation

The incredible Big Yellow Self Storage has been supporting SWV for the last 18 months through its charitable Big Yellow Foundation. In that time, they have gifted over £87,000 to support our vital programme pathways.

Tell us about the mission of The Big Yellow Foundation.

The Big Yellow Foundation supports individuals facing challenges to find employment. They do this by partnering with charities who address some of the most challenging issues in society and support groups that are often overlooked. These including ex-service personnel, refugees, ex-offenders and
people with disabilities.

To drive this support, we work with seven charity partners and provide grants funded by donations from our generous customers. Every pound donated is matched by the Big Yellow Group. Additionally, we offer work placements and free or discounted storage to over 200 local charities across the UK, allowing them to make a meaningful impact in communities.

What inspired the Board of Trustees to support SWV?

We were inspired by SWV’s unwavering commitment to helping Veterans rebuild their lives after being in the services. Many of the individuals they support have faced complex challenges yet show incredible strength and determination. Our trustees recognised an alignment in values and believed
this partnership could offer not just support but real long-term opportunity for those who deserve a fresh start.

Tell us about your support of SWV and the difference you hope it will make.
Our support of SWV has helped deliver physical and psychological care to Veterans with profound injuries while strengthening pathways into employment. Through SWV’s tailored training and mentoring, Veterans are being supported to build confidence, rebuild relationships and take positive steps towards secure and meaningful work. Together we have already impacted the lives of many Veterans and their families. By backing SWV we are investing in people who have given so much and now deserve the opportunity to find stability in everyday life with independence and hope.

How can our Veterans find out more about employment opportunities with Big Yellow?
Veterans can visit the careers section on our website or speak directly with their SWV advisor who can help guide them through the opportunities available.

What have you most enjoyed about partnering with SWV?
It has been incredibly rewarding to work alongside such a committed and passionate SWV team. We have loved seeing the real life impact this partnership is having on individuals and feel proud to be playing a part in their journey. One of the highlights was when our Big Yellow staff had the opportunity to volunteer alongside Veterans to help set up the church for the 2024 Christmas Carol service. It was a brilliant moment of teamwork and community spirit and a true reflection of what this partnership is all about.
