Ocean Challenge 2022
19-25 June 2022
6 boats, 24 veterans, 12 volunteers
"I never slept more than three hours in the last 20 years and while I was on the boat with the team I was able to get six hours sleep every time. I felt safe for the first time in a very long time."
The SWV Ocean Challenge is a fun, demanding, adrenaline-fuelled and competitive sailing eventacross five days of intensivetraining and one day of racing.
The challenge ensures those withand without disabilities and hiddenwounds compete on equal terms.
The Ocean Challenge is part of SWV's needs-led pathways for UK veterans to regain independence after injury or illness. We do this in combination with our programmes across Employment, Mentoring,Pain Management and Mental Health.
The inaugural Ocean Challengetook place in 2018. Four international teams of veterans learnt to sail over the course of a week, culminating in competing in the famous 'Round the Island Race' in the Isle of Wight.
One of the SWV boats was awarded the MS Amlin SeamanshipAward for embodying the #RaceForAll ethos of the event.
In 2022, one of our boats will be dedicated to the former servicemen and women who are dealing with the traumatic effects of living with severe PTSD.
Can you help?
"I loved the team work and the camaraderie between the crew."

We are looking for individuals or companies to support the challenge by donating or sponsoring a boat (with live aboard facilities) to accommodate 8-10 people for the week of 19-25 June.
